Less than 24 hours after the signing of the “agreement that saved the world and re-opened the government,” the idiots of Washington and their media pets are all over TV. Self-congratulation, collegiality and future cooperation fill the airwaves. All of this, of course, is typical Washington BS and spin. More ridiculous still is the notion that there are prospects for a new Grand Bargain that will avert any future crises.
Are these politicians so stupid that they actually believe what they are saying? Or, do they believe enough of us are so stupid to believe such nonsense? An affirmative answer for one does not preclude an affirmative for the other.
No Cause For Celebration
The “success” symbolizes the dysfunction and failure of the governing apparatus of the US. What was billed as a “win” for the economy is not. It is a return to the status quo and the status quo is unstable in the long term.
The agreement represents another failed chapter in addressing the cancer known as the Welfare State. No State has ever rolled back this terminal disease. Washington’s resolution extends this perfect record.
Stripped of all the media excitement, what occurred last night was a reaffirmation that the US remains on its Road to Ruin. Nothing was achieved other than a re-opening of the spending spigot and the legalization of more debt.
