The recent post ObamaCare and Our Health System claimed 83% of doctors were considering leaving their practice as a result of the passage of ObamaCare. The magnitude of this number and the unknown source gave me cause for caution when reporting the statistic. A reader/MD has responded to this point:
I am an MD, and can tell you these numbers are indeed accurate, and the situation is even worse than the numbers tell. First, look at the figure. It’s no co-incidence that the AMA represents 17% of MDs, and that was the segment that was surveyed before Obamacare took place. The 83% of us not enrolled into that academic liberal organization are now finally getting our opinion heard.
Furthermore, I can tell you it is FAR, FAR worse than this highlights. MDs have seen this coming for YEARS and already have their contingency plans in place. It’s just a matter of when to implement them. The young MDs who financially are unable to quit will cut back hours, call, hospital privileges, critical care coverage etc. The focus will be life style, not working 80+ hours a week to get a whopping 1% increase in income. I am in a group of 50+ MDs, all specialists that are in rare supply, and take a minimum of 5 years to train. In two years, 50% of my group will no longer be in medicine. That may be an under estimate. My specialty can’t be replaced by NP’s or PA’s. There will be HUGE shortages. Over half of MDs coming out of medical school are female, and half of those go part time or quit medicine after they have their kids (good for them), again this will lead to MASS MD shortages. the decline in quality and access will be RAPID, much, much, MUCH more rapid than anyone anticipated. I already have started a non-medical business in Canada and am looking to gain citizenship overseas. A neurologist and cardiologist in my hospital just started a microbrewery. Good luck seeing them in 3 years. That cardiology group will not take ER call post Obamacare. Complex patients with poor hours, poor revenue return, and litigation risk. Why bother? General surgeons have already said the same. Don’t rupture an appendix during off hours. Americans will be going to Canada to see MDs. There will be FAR shorter wait times. The good news? Hospice will be BOOMING

Scary thoughts, but sadly this was made known by those attempting the save our healthcare system from the Obama onslaught. Any thinking person instinctively knows this disaster does not end well. This episode is symptomatic of the liberal drive to destroy all that is exemplary about America.
I’ve come to the conclusion that I agree with those who think that Obama hates western civilization. I am reminded of Dinesh D’Souza’s book, “The Roots of Obama’s Rage”, where he portrays Obama as a rabid anti-colonialist, view’s inherited from his father. After the recent disclosure that Obama made that stuff up about his grandfather being supposedly imprisoned and tortured by the British, one conservative writer, I forget who, then shot down D’Souza’s theory. The more I think about it, however, I believe for Obama (or Ayers) to fabricate such a story merely reinforces or declares his own personal views on Western civilization.
My conclusion is that Obama is intent on destroying western civilization and empathizes with the non-white population of the planet. This is why he doesn’t care if Iran gets its nukes. This is why Obama has sided with the “Arab Spring” anti-Israel, anti-American elements of Islam, this is why he is willing to half heartedly continue to fight a losing proposition in Afghanistan to continue to degrade our military, this is why he is willing to destroy our energy base (no energy -no civilization), our industrial base through regulations (and no energy), this is why he is intent on destroying the roman and Christian influences that forged our nation and finally our very lives through the abomination (I’ll refrain from the usual term obamanation) of socialized medicine.
That half our population embraces this fool merely proves that we will not survive intact. Unfortunately, I’m not all that impressed with the rest of the world and I’m not sure that the solution is to leave. We may survive, at least in part, if a few brave governors would take a stand against the federal government by simply saying no. Call out the national guard and dare the feds to attempt to implement whatever latest anti-American law or presidential edict is in vogue. In other words, red and blue states need to go their separate ways.
