Simon Black has a damning article about government. Among the things he points out is this wonderfully accurate quote by George Carlin:

George Carlin once said, “When I hear a person talking about political solutions, I know I am not listening to a serious person.” He was right. Politics creates problems, not solutions.

Mr. Black does not think the system can be changed from within:

Governments are like primitive cannibals feasting on a great treasure trove of sheeple. You can’t force them out, and you can’t vote them out. But you can sure as hell starve them out. When enough people pick up and leave, essentially voting with their feet, it accelerates the system crash.

Clearly something must be done, although Mr. Black’s solution is neither appropriate nor palatable. Not enough people will “vote with their feet” to make a big enough difference, at least not in the short term. Nor should they. No one should leave their chosen country to escape a government that has become predatory. Especially one which was the bastion for freedom and was captured by a criminal class. Who says the place you run to will not be or become as bad?

A big part of our current economic problem is that the US government has become so onerous that “capital has voted with its feet.” Jobs and investments have left for countries where they can get a fair shake. It is easier to deploy assets outside the country than it is to change your residence. In that respect the US government is being starved out, but so are many citizens who have fewer jobs to pursue.

It is not unthinkable to leave this country. Some individuals already have and many others have similar plans. Others have acquired dual citizenship in case they need to flee quickly. Still others have renounced their US citizenship and acquired citizenship in other countries. Leaving may be appropriate for some, but most are not in a position to have these options.

The country is fed up with what has been happening and want change. A country known for freedom should not drive citizens away because of the lack of freedom(s). Freedom-loving people should not have to abandon their homeland and they will not.

Tragically, it is difficult to imagine a solution which is effected via the ballot box. The necessary changes are likely too great, especially when there is little difference other than marketing strategy between the two major political parties.

It will be difficult to return government back to the box from whence it came. To my knowledge, it has never happened before. The US government, like all others, will do whatever it can to prevent this return to sanity from happening.

I don’t know how it will be done, but I have enough faith in freedom-loving Americans that they will find a way. It won’t be quick, easy or painless.
