Well said Monty. I worked my entire life, from the time I was 21 to 46 yrs old. I worked my way into middle management after staying with the same company for twenty years. Indeed , i sacrificed alot for that company. But as you said, it is nothing more than an entity. I will never forget the day that I was called into the office and told that I was being laid off due to cutbacks. I was shocked, hurt, and damn scared because It was all that I had ever known. Because I was single, the federal government took a fulll third of what I made in taxes. Then when I filed, they said they wanted more! So here I am starting over and going back to school at 47. There are many more people in my exact same situation. Then I saw on the news that the government was paying $16.00 a peice for blueberry muffins for their staff meetings. Wow!
It seems to me that this nation has fallen into some sort of capitalistic anarchy. All one has to do is watch one hour of television to see that a full twenty five min. are devoted to commercials. Indeed, some stations whore themselves out to paid programming for six to eight hours a night. And that is the lighthearted side of the matter. Money itself has become more important than a persons life. It is true that we are a nation of laws. It is also true that in all but the most violent of crimes, the wealthy are usually able to buy their way out of punishment. No, I am not a communist. Indeed, I am all for the free market. But every system needs rules. Think about the direction in which we are headed.
The direction we are headed is not good. I am very concerned as anyone who loves this country should be. There is plenty of blame to go around, although I believe most of it rests with the government and its corruption. Justice Brandeis had it correct when he stated:
“In a government of laws, the existence of the government will be imperiled if it fails to observe the law scrupulously. Our government is the potent, the omnipotent teacher. For good or ill, it teaches the whole people by its example. If government becomes a lawbreaker it breeds contempt for law: it invites every man to become a law unto himself. It invites anarchy.”
We do not have free markets and, at least in my lifetime, never have. We have advanced crony Socialism.
