Many wonder what is wrong with important Democrats. Obama, Reid, Pelosi, Dodd, Frank, Schumer and many others in leadership positions don’t seem like the rest of us. They seem out of step with much of America.
Other Democrats seem less strange (scary, disturbed, misguided???? choose your own modifier), but they never seem to produce leaders that behave like them or the rest of us. Are these people too meek to take leadership positions or are they satisfied with recent leaders? Perhaps it is just an example of Friedrich Hayek’s “why the worst get to the top.”
Clarice Feldman’s take regarding wives of recent presidents is interesting. Whatever abnormalities accompany Democrat leaders, it appears their wives suffer from the same “public nuisance” gene. Somehow Democrat first ladies believe they were elected to office as well as their husbands. Whether that is true of spouses of other Democrat leaders is unknown because most have no role in Washington and no way to create one.
Regarding Ms. Obama, Feldman says:
In the case of Michelle Obama, the overreach is particularly ridiculous, because it is so hypocritical. Telling others to forego well-paying jobs and work on civic projects while she cannot spend our money fast enough on foreign trips for herself. She has to my knowledge never once held a position for which she was not well-compensated . At the moment — at who knows whose cost — exercise coaches are reportedly flown in regularly from Chicago for her, she enjoys the most lavish meals, and (presumably using the Obamas’ vast fortune) splurges on very expensive baubles and gowns and even extravagantly priced tennis shoes.
The same overreach, at least with regard to policy-making, was attempted by Ms. Clinton.
Feldman contrasts recent Republican wives with recent Democrat wives. The comparisons are startling because in no case did we get anything approaching a co-President or public (nuisance) crusaders. The reason from the left is likely to be that the Democrat women are brilliant. Marrying a Republican is prima facie evidence of ignorance. Regardless, first ladies are not elected and should keep out of the way.
I agree with Feldman’s wish for spouses of both parties:
I want them to emulate Denis Thatcher and just leave all that stuff for “The Boss” we elected and enjoy for the brief time they are there the many perks of life in the White House.
Democrats of the virulent liberal variety clearly believe they are the ruling elite. They hold everyone else but their clique in disdain, they are the ruling masters and everyone else are just peons. With this mindset, they are entitled to all of the perks that go along with their lofty status.
