Using numbers to describe our debt situation is meaningless to the average citizens. The numbers are too big to comprehend. Here, however, is a way to relate to US government debt or at least the rate at which it is being added:
The U.S. government borrows about 168 million dollars every single hour.
If Bill Gates gave every penny of his fortune to the U.S. government, it would only cover the U.S. budget deficit for 15 days.

It would take the wealth of 168 millionaires to sustain the government for one hour. Bill Gates is a multi-billionaire, easily the richest man in this country and all of his wealth would not keep government going for long.
