Thus ends Chris Martenson’s Insolvent and Going Deeper piece on the condition of the US economy and country. I recommend this article as a MUST READ!

Time is short, at least by historical standards, for us to right the ship of state. What that means in real time is uncertain, yet time and events have been squandered as Martenson points out:

The US is on a fiscally unsustainable path and has almost entirely wasted the opportunity this crisis represented to get its house in order.

One wonders whether Obama (and Rahm Emmanuel of a crisis is too important to waste fame) believes that it was wasted.

To appreciate the urgency and intractability of our situation, read Chris’ piece.

  1. The U.S.Government, wastes $300.3 billion a year on ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS. With all the infighting about the budget, why will no one in congress talk about this very serious and costly problem?

    • Bob,
The primary concern of everyone is Washington is election-reelection. Nothing is done that will offend any voter constituency. Regardless of whether illegal immigrants vote or not (an interesting subject in and of itself), there is sympathy for them amongst legal immigrants. The fear is that by cracking down on this problem, “I might lose valuable votes and possibly my office.”

The old advice “Follow the money” should be expanded to “Follow the money and the power.”

      • Congress may have forgot agout voters that are 65 and older. These people have paid into SS all their working lives, and now congress spends this money on those that have never contributed anything. Of course thats not the only thing.

  2. “If we could just wake up the American people to what’s going on, they would stand up and make the gov’t do the right thing. That’s not working either since most of our family and neighbors refuse to see what’s going on.”

That quote from the first comment to Martenson’s article agrees with my experience in trying to be like a financial Paul Revere to relatives and friends. Too many people believe that collapse of the dollar and the economy will not happen in the United States. Videos of Japanese who could not outrun the tsunami are horrible; for whatever reasons, these poor souls waited too long to flee to high ground. It baffles me why people do not heed the warnings of financial collapse equivalent to a financial tsunami.
