Let me wish you a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah or whatever you feel appropriate. I am not a fan of the bland, politically-correct Happy Holidays. You may imagine my saying it, but you will not hear it. Nor will you hear “Bah humbug” because it is such a joyous time of the year.
We leave Asheville to Minneapolis today for Christmas. All the good spots like the North Pole, International Falls, Fargo, etc. were booked, so we got the next-best thing. Temperature highs in the teens are just the ticket to toughen one up and make one happy to live South.
The trek is neither a mark of heroism or stupidity. Our grandchildren are there, and we use every excuse possible to visit them. We enjoy the rest of the family as well, but probably would not make the trek if it were only them. However, it is our duty to spoil the grandchildren. That is how grandparents exact revenge on their own children.
Posts will continue, although at a less than normal pace until after the New Year. There may be some site work taking place, so if you see something unusual that persists, please notify me. Thanks for you continuing interest in the site.
Despite our problems, we should all be grateful for having parents or selves wise enough to settle in this country. For your individual situation, I wish you health happiness and prosperity.
Special thoughts and thanks go out to our troops who are unable to share family and comfort during the holidays. They and their predecessors made our freedom possible.
I also wish Monty and family a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Nice picture of you dressed as Santa, BTW. We look forward to your thoughtful and sensible analysis and commentary in 2011. Meanwhile, enjoy the Winter Festival in the Twins.
I’m going to go waaaay out on a politically incorrect limb and and say “Merry Christmas, Monty”. Hope you have a ball.
