I am often asked about reading lists. Unfortunately, I haven’t gotten my act together on putting such a list together.

Here is a list of “favorite conservative books” that might be of interest. It ranks Road to Serfdom first. There are 47 books ranked by a cross-section of people.

Might be of use to you readers hungry to explore some new books or those just interested in knowing how many you recognize or read.

  1. I would argue that Milton Friedmans “A monetary history of the United States” has to go, and be replaced by Murray Rothbards “Americas Great Depression”. As everyone will soon discover, Bernankes adherence to theorems of Friedman will prove disastrous to the american currency, economy and society.

  2. What is Dionne doing voting on a Conservative book list?

Fatal Conceit is an even better primer than Road to Serfdom. And more readable.

There can be no equal to Democracy in America for understanding the inherent pitfalls of democracy and how to deal with them. Like Burke, he is rarely or never angry, his mission is to understand what truth is, no matter the consequence. He has a genuine kindness and love for people.

We are beginning to understand that the neocon is the biggest crime wave to hit conservatism since Teddy Roosevelt. It doesn’t show in this list. But, there are many more good ideas for me to follow, which is the point of a list.
