I would like to see government removed entirely from the retirement issue as you would.  But I believe we have passed the point of that happening. If &quot;forced saving&quot; for retirement is here to stay, I believe that private accounts are the way to go. If they must run our lives, I would prefer they be constrained in whatever manner is practical. Allowing them to build up another Ponzi scheme/slush fund would be the worst way to go.
