Two posts ago, I included Max Baucus speaking on the Senate floor suggesting he resembled Foster Brooks. For those who have never seen Foster Brooks, here is a classic piece with Dean Martin. I apologize to Mr. Brooks for using his name in the same sentence with Senator Baucus.

  1. I am a retired physician. I still keep an active license but do not practice. Most medical boards in this country have a difficult time policing incompetent doctors, but they do restrict and suspend licenses regularly. The easy things to monitor are drugs, alcohol and of course sexual misconduct. I practiced a surgical sub specialty and I was acutely aware that even a trace of alcohol in my system would result in automatic suspension of my license. It is interesting that the very morons who passed these laws think nothing of going to work in the legislature drunk. An impaired physician may harm one or two people, but these fools harm millions in their enacting of laws. Who does more damage to society?
I watched in amazement as Obama and Biden shared a few beers with a policeman and professor from Massachusetts, while the codes for all the nuclear missiles were in a briefcase a few feet away. How is this responsible behavior? We should have breathalizers installed in congress for the idiots who are passing laws. They are bad enough when sober. While drunk they are a complete menace to society.

    • I would cut them a bit of slack. To get on the floor, they must be certifiably sober or so drunk they are comatose. I would prefer the latter in that it would inhibit new legislation.
