Here is a recent Pew Research Center poll that does not speak well for Democracy. The poll questions are online, so it may not be “scientific” in the manner that random sampling claims to be.
Regardless, the results are truly scary. The questions are such that average, concerned citizens would be expected to know most of the answers. The average score is below 50%! Be sure to look at the demographics. Scores go up with age and education as one might expect, but not that much.
