Dr. Thomas Sowell on National Health Care
The healthcare fiasco rumbles on as Washington does everything it can to extend its power and control over the citizenry. It would be one thing if this effort would improve our health care system, which certainly needs change. However, the same people that have intervened in our health care and made it the jumbled mess that it is, now claim they can run the entire system. What arrogance! These are the same people that gave us Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, the Post Office, Amtrack and countless other monuments of inefficiency, mismanagement and waste.
An objective economic analysis shows how this must end up. We will go from the world’s finest healthcare to something approaching a third world country. Fortunately, one of the clearest thinkers in the last 50 years has looked at this problem and done so in a manner that non-economists can understand. Tom Sowell wrote a chapter on Medical care several years ago in one of the forty plus books he has written. Thanks to Dr. Sowell and Investor’s Business Daily for making his analysis available on the internet.
To learn why P. J. O’ Rourke stated that “If you think healthcare is expensive now, wait until it’s free,” (see my earlier post today), be sure to read the IBD post. It will enlighten you about healthcare (before it became a political issue) and the remarkable background of Dr. Sowell. For anyone interested in common sense that is rare today, I encourage you to visit Dr. Sowell’s website.
